You will also have an opportunity to review property information (including eligibility requirements and restrictions) during the property selection process by clicking on the ‘View Property’ link next to the property name.

The first and most important decision you need to make is what type of property will you be applying for?

Subsidized Housing

Subsidized Housing is where the Federal Government pays a portion of your rent (this is called a subsidy). At these locations, the amount of rent you pay is based on approximately 30% your household gross income minus allowable deductions. The government subsidy comes from HUD or USDA-RD, depending on property. Income and asset limits apply.

Affordable Housing

This type of housing is NOT subsidized, however, the monthly rent is lower than the market rents for a given area. For example, these types of properties have rents that are usually several hundred dollars below market, and may range between $800 to $1300 depending on location and bedroom size. In order to live at one of these properties, your household income must be enough to afford the rent, yet not exceed certain income limits for the area.

Market Rate Housing

This type of housing is NOT subsidized, and monthly rent is consistent with the market rents in the given area.
